A vibrant community
The Mendlesham Airfield Association (MAA) was reconstituted in 2024 to create a 34th Bomb Group Exhibition with the artefacts, photos and documents originally displayed in the Fleece Pub, Mendlesham. It stands as a dedicated guardian of the legacy of the 34th Bomb Group (BG), ensuring that the heroism, sacrifices, and contributions of the unit are preserved and promoted for future generations. The story of their bravery and camaraderie is at the heart of the MAA’s mission.
The exhibition can be viewed in the ‘Old Ticket Office’ at the Mid-Suffolk Railway Museum (the “Middy”) during opening hours throughout the season. Or visit the website at Mendleshamairfield.com to explore the story of the airfield, its link with the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, and the service personnel and civilians who contributed so much to the wartime effort. The site contains highlights from the exhibition and links to many other resources relating to the airfield and the 34th Bomb Group.
