A vibrant community
The USSAF 34th Bomb Group Memorial weekend of 8th and 9th November 2014 was held to acknowledge the sacrifice of the American Airmen who gave their lives during World War II and to concecrate the new memorial erected in the churchyard at St Mary's Church, Mendlesham.
A remembrance service and memorial dedication was held by the Bishop of Richborough on Sunday morning:
Followed by an event at Mendlesham Community Centre:
A display at the St Joseph's Centre that ran all weekend:
A gallery of photographs from the event can be seen by clicking on the link Memorial Weekend Gallery
Should you wish to print out or keep any of these photographs for your private use they can be viewed and downloaded here and then by clicking on any of the images with your right mouse button and then saving them to your hard drive.
NB: We have been advised by Edward Earl Zesch that our history display photos require a couple of corrections in that:
Image 3, the airman in the P-47 cockpit, should be Bob Lillie, not Ken O'Connor.
The photo immediately below is that of Bob Lillie, not Roy Cahill.
Below that photo is Ken O' Connor leaning on the tail of a B-17.
Please note you can view this correction under " Revised names" under the link to " History Display 8/9 Nov" but not that of " Memorial Weekend Display" at present.
