A vibrant community
The 1st Mendlesham Scout Group runs activities for young people aged 6 to 18. We meet weekly during term time and also go on several camps a year including basic backwoods camping, parent & scout camps, district camps and international jamborees. We also take part in lots of different activities such as sporting activities, badge days, conservation work, car washes, bingo and helping out at local events such as our famous burger and hot dog stall at the annual Mendlesham May Day Street Fayre
The Group is always looking for new members, but especially new adult members to assist with the running of the Sections. Full training is provided and it is very rewarding. We are currently looking for uniformed leaders and assistant leaders as well as regular and occasional helpers. We would also like more volunteers to join our executive committee. This would involve attending 6-8 meetings per year to facilitate fundraising and group events.
The Scout Group is currently fundraising for a new scout hut as our previous building, a WW1 barrack hut, was deemed unsafe and has moved to a WW1 museum.
We are determined to build a new Scout hut so that scouting activities can continue at the old headquarters site as soon as possible. As you can imagine, this is quite a challenge for the Group. The Group Leaders and committee are all volunteers and it is the first time that any of us have been involved in a project of this scale. Any members of the community that feel they could help us with this project would be most welcome.
If you feel that you would be able to help us, please give Martyn Bryant , the Group Scout Leader, a call on: 01379 788998.
